Job Posting: Ursinus College, Collegeville, PA - Web & Systems Management Librarian

Summary and Scope of Position:

The Web & Systems Management Librarian manages the Library & IT organization's digital presence, which links to a variety of vendor provided information resources, and oversees the Library's systems, including the Integrated Library System (newly migrated from Sirsi to OCLC's WMS) and its Discovery Search Tool (currently OCLC Discovery), with the overarching goal of expanding and enhancing Library services. He/she monitors and maintains the websites, making necessary updates to the pages and coordinating outreach to the campus community through this important communications tool. Additionally, he/she collaborates with Library and IT staff to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the Library's systems. He/she troubleshoots technical problems with students, faculty and staff by working with internal IT resources and external vendors. He/she maintains a high-level understanding of all of the Library's systems and works with IT resources to implement necessary upgrades and explore possible alternatives. Knowledge of trends in library systems, including the possibilities opened up by cloud computing, is key.



The Web & Systems Management Librarian works with the Director of Research, Teaching and Learning Services and other Library and IT staff members to provide a team approach to website and systems management. He/she is an active participant in the Library's Information Literacy program, including serving as a liaison to the Sciences, which can include classroom workshops, research help for students and faculty, and the creation of online research guides, as well as playing a role in other digital services offered across the college community.  This position has governing faculty status, which includes the additional responsibility of participation in faculty meetings and the potential to serve on faculty committees.



Specific Responsibilities:

* Provide leadership and support for the Library & IT organization's web presence.

* Promote awareness of the Library & IT organization and relevant initiatives to the campus via the web, including updating news and events.

* Supervise student workers hired to assist with web responsibilities.

* Monitor trends in library systems development to prepare for future initiatives.

* Direct the use of library systems, including: OCLC WMS; OCLC Discovery; Tipasa; LibGuides; EZproxy

* Generate reports as needed for collection management purposes.

* Work collaboratively with IT colleagues to ensure that all systems work to their maximum capacity; troubleshoot with both internal and external resources when necessary.

* Review and manage licenses and support agreements for library systems.

* Maintain vendor relationships.

* Serve as a liaison librarian with the Sciences for the Information Literacy program.

* Work with aspects of the Library's budget, in collaboration with other librarians, to allocate, manage, and monitor its effectiveness in supporting the college's academic programs and strategic priorities.

* Participate in professional organizations and meetings as appropriate.

* Opportunity to serve as an adviser to first-year students.

Minimum Qualifications:

* ALA Accredited Master's degree in Library and Information Science.

* Some experience with website design and/or web content management systems.

* Strong evidence of collaboration with IT professionals.

* Holistic knowledge of how library systems fit together.

* Demonstrated library instruction or training experience.

* Ability to communicate well.

* Ability to travel occasionally for professional development opportunities.



Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience with administration of an integrated library system and discovery search technologies.

* Experience or interest in Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

* Previous experience in an academic library or merged library/IT organization.
