Dear Colleagues:

Harvard Library is recruiting for the Head of Electronic Resources and Serials Acquisitions<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__sjobs.brassring.com_TGnewUI_Search_home_HomeWithPreLoad-3FPageType-3DJobDetails-26partnerID-3D25240-26siteID-3D5341-26AReq-3D46079BR-23jobDetails-3D1391949-5F5341&d=DwMFAg&c=WO-RGvefibhHBZq3fL85hQ&r=-dJY5TehyVpa0uL13u5xTUMlf1n5OVuwkaPo35ZMc7k&m=MoHmMnngCwLo3v2ewI883StpJ9YNEEVs9zadJujsAG0&s=RD3qxA_mPb_biWHreeasincwhzLmaw9oqYrAUi4F6IU&e=>. This person will be responsible for three units-two with an emphasis on print serials (still a very big deal for Harvard) and one focused solely on electronic resources. The ideal candidate would be comfortable in a role that has both internal and outward facing responsibilities. Internally, this leader would help staff manage the continuing transition from print to electronic and externally, s/he would be promoting best practices across Harvard (and beyond to ReCAP and Ivy Plus) for e-content licensing, access, and management.

A high-level overview of the position description reads:

Harvard Library seeks a dynamic, imaginative, and collaborative leader to guide and evolve Harvard Library's management of print serials and electronic resources. Applying their solid record of leadership and vision across Harvard's vast online and physical collections, the Head of Electronic Resources and Serials Acquisitions will guide the development of a unified strategy, best practices, and workflows for managing fee-based and open access online resources that encompass all library parties of the content ecosystem--collection development, technical services, and scholarly communication while maintaining the accurate and timely acquisition of a significant and robust collection of print serials.

Leadership and Advocacy: In close collaboration with collection development and scholarly resources leadership at Harvard, and with Harvard Library's strategic partners in ReCAP, Ivy Plus Libraries, and beyond, the Head creates and recommends best practices for successful license and access negotiation strategy, resource purchasing models, resource sharing, resource analysis and assessment, long-term preservation, usage data analysis, and implements sustainable workflows and staffing models that support these activities in an environment that builds and maintains both print and electronic collections locally and through inter-institutional arrangements. S/he advocates for adapting how such content may be used to support users' evolving research and scholarship needs.

Teamwork: A member of the Information and Technical Services (ITS) Senior Leadership Team (Heads of Acquisitions, Electronic Resources and Serials Acquisitions, Metadata Creation, and Metadata Management, as well as the Associate Librarian for ITS), the Head works across domains to leverage the synergies between collection development, scholarly communication, and technical services.

Operations: Along with three direct reports, this leader will guide a team of nine staff in support of electronic resources management and 20 staff who oversee a blend of much of the print and electronic serials acquisitions activities for the Harvard Library. S/he applies knowledge of current issues and trends in e-resource licensing, copyright, content, acquisitions, and the publishing industry to support the ongoing transition from print to electronic resources and to sustain robust workflows where such a transition is not imminent.
