[Eril-l] Is Wiley Online Library accessible to you?

@Steve – No problem at all. I’m happy to try and help make this a better experience for everyone. Part of that process is listening to libraries.

@Emily (and others following these developments) – To answer your questions

  1. Should I change my proxy stanza?

The newer stanza configuration should work. Nothing has changed with Wiley Online Library yet, so the older one should be fine too (I believe one of the society hub sites were added in that update). I am working with OCLC on how to communicate the changes necessary for the platform migration. We are still testing, but as soon as we have something we will share it.

  1. Did the impending platform migration have anything to do with the problems this weekend?

No, this was completely independent of the migration. This outage was unexpected, but unrelated.

  1. When should I start going performing steps on the checklist?

Much of the checklist can’t be performed until after the migration. This is because the new links won’t be ready until after launch. The redirects should hold things in place, but we’re urging folks to start making their necessary changes as close after the launch as possible. The things I’d be concerned with before the migration are any institutional changes (read: IP address, link resolver vendor, Shibboleth/OpenAthens). Those should be communicated to our Sales Support team (eal at wiley.com<mailto:eal at wiley.com>)

Thanks for working with us as we work towards as seamless a migration as possible.

Best,
Matthew

Just trying to sort out the most recent and most pertinent information in this thread (and others) concerning Wiley access issues, as we had a report of non-loading .PDFs as recently as 10 AM this morning. I found I was eventually able to download the .PDFs one of our students was attempting to access, but they were very slow to load.

Should we still be using the Wiley EZProxy configuration stanza posted on the OCLC site (11-27-2017), or should we be using the slightly altered stanza that was posted last week on the EZ-Proxy listserv?

The one posted to the EZ-Proxy listserv last week is as follows:

Also, were the problems this weekend correlated to the upcoming migration to the Atypon Literatum platform, or is that migration/ change still to come next month?
And should we start moving ahead with the Wiley Migration Checklist steps? http://www.wileyactual.com/WOLMigration/files/WOL_Migration_Checklist.pdf

Thanks for helping to clarify some of this.

Hi Steve,

We’d like to apologize to you and all others who experienced outage and disruption to service over the weekend. We have seen your responses on the listservs and know this was not an optimal experience for libraries and their users.

For its part, Wiley acknowledges that it experienced an unexpected issue that caused the site to be down for an extended period. This affected the ability of users to access content on Wiley Online Library. There was also another issue that caused difficulty for those viewing Wiley content over ePDF. These issues have now been fully resolved.

We regret the inconvenience this has caused. We are working hard to ensure we can alert libraries immediately of any unplanned periods of downtime or disruption in the future.

Best,
Matthew

As of this morning, everything on Wiley Online Library appears to be working properly again, including the ability to download PDFs.

Without trying to come across as a crank (probably too late), my view is that you can learn a lot about a company by its customer support. This is not by any means the first example of problematic interaction I’ve observed. I hope Wiley will listen and learn from this experience. (Yes, I’ve also communicated this through official channels.)
