Job Description:
Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Director of the University Library works closely with the Assistant Director of Systems and Metadata and the Assistant Director for Instruction and User Services to provide leadership and vision for the Sister Elizabeth Anne Sueltenfuss Library. As the Chief administrative officer of the library, the Director is responsible for the management of all library operations, including personnel, budget, policies, collections, and services. The Director provides leadership in the integration of new information technologies with traditional library materials and services to fulfill the library's mission and strategic goals. The Director will advance the mission of Our Lady of the Lake with energy and commitment. The Director has faculty rank and a twelve-month contract.
Essential Functions:

  *   Act as the chief administrative officer of the Sueltenfuss Library.
  *   Collaborate with deans, faculty, and academic support staff to attain University goals and strategic initiatives. Participate in university-wide strategic planning.
  *   Develop, articulate, implement and assess vision and strategic goals for the library.
  *   Manage and allocate the library's budget. Oversee the purchase of library equipment, supplies, services, and materials.
  *   Develop and implement library policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
  *   Provide outreach programs and services to the OLLU community as appropriate.
  *   Establish cooperative relationships with local, regional and state academic libraries; participate in state-wide resource management (TexShare).
  *   Lead the library's involvement in state, regional and national forums, professional associations.
  *   Promote the role of the library and librarians in curricular planning, teaching and learning and advocate for student proficiency in information literacy skills.
  *   Collaborate with the Information Technology division staff to support student computing needs and technology training for faculty
  *   Make recommendations to the VPAA regarding the hiring of library faculty, staff, salaries, promotion in rank, and renewal or non-renewal of contracts;
  *   Oversee the hiring process, provide documentation, and adhere to University and Human Resources policies and procedures.
  *   Supervise and evaluate the performance of library faculty and staff.
  *   Encourage and support professional contributions by members of the University Library, including scholarly and professional activities, creative and artistic endeavors, and contributions to the University and outside communities.
  *   Serve as member of academic and University committees as assigned.
  *   Oversee the University archives; records maintenance and management.

Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  *   Knowledge of library operations.
  *   Knowledge of current issues and trends in higher education and academic libraries including technological developments.
  *   Demonstrated oral communication skills with the ability to be an effective, active listener, and facilitator.
  *   Excellent written communication skills and organizational skills including the preparation of reports, analysis of data, dissemination of policies and procedures, and communication with various constituencies on and off campus.
  *   Proficient in library technology, productivity, course management systems, and instructional software.
  *   Future oriented and flexible in meeting the needs of University constituencies.
  *   Awareness of evolving student learning styles and research needs, including new technologies.
  *   Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary as well as strong problem-solving abilities.
  *   Ability to lead student learning outcomes assessment for library functions.
Education and Experience:

  *   Master's Degree from an ALA accredited program (required)
  *   Demonstration of progressively increased administrative responsibilities. (required)
  *   Experience building and maintaining strong relationships with University constituencies (required).
  *   Experience working with diverse populations of students, faculty, staff, and the community (required).
  *   Second advances degree (preferred).
  *   Five years of professional library experience (preferred).
  *   University or educational system experience (preferred).
