I just saw the article on the new Open Music Library project:

http://newsbreaks.infotoday.com/Spotlight/Alexander-Street-Strikes-a-Chord-With-Open-Music-Library-116733.asp

I excitedly shared this link with our music faculty:

http://openmusiclibrary.org/

I should have read the article more carefully.

After doing some searching, I emailed them this retraction:

*Caveat emptor. *

*The citation and searching information about the resources is open. *

*Some actual content is open access in the traditional sense.*

*But a large portion links either to Alexander Street *subscription*
databases (to which we do have a partial subscription) and Proquest music
periodical indexes (for which we don't have subscriptions - we have the
EBSCO one). They encourage users to ask us to buy them!*

*This could be a fine tool if we could afford purchasing all of the
underlying databases in the future.*

*My apologies for being snookered by the fine print.*

**I thought I should warn this group so that no one else goes looking for
a pony...

*🐎*
*     *

*Whoops.*
