[Eril-l] OCLC WMS: harvested counter data needs to be available in analytics module

I'm frustrated working on ACRL and IPEDs reports. I've used WMS to harvest
counter data from 30+ vendors. But the analytics team is not pulling that
datainto reports. So I'm going back to vendor native interfaces, and
combining datain excel spreadsheets. :(

What Counter data do you need most to be transferred to WMS analytics?
BR2? MR1? MR2? Other counter reports? Please comment.

Also, there are two enhancement requests about this issue, one on
transferring the data into a "data universe" for institutions with report
designer; and a second asking for specific report totals for institutions
with the custom report designer. Please comment on and vote for these
enhancement requests.

First enhancement request:
https://www.oclc.org/community/enhancements/user_forms/add-more-counter-
reports-to-the-eresources-data-universe.en.html

Add more COUNTER reports to the e-resources data universe

Description of Enhancement
Currently, only data for the DB1, BR1, JR1, and JR2 (for report designer
subscribers only) COUNTER reports is incorporated into the data universe
for Analytics and Report Designer. This seriously limits the functionality
of these reports. License Manager can harvest many other COUNTER reports
from the supported vendors, and the data is stored in WMS, but cannot be
analyzed.

I would like to ask that PR1 and BR2 reports, at minimum, be added to the
datauniverse as soon as possible.

Issues Enhancement Will Resolve
The current e-resources reports in Analytics have limited utility because
there are many vendors who do not provide DB1 reports, using PR1 instead. A
combined DB1/PR1 report would allow for a more complete database usage
summary report.

Many vendors, including ebrary, do not provide BR1 and instead provide BR2
for partial item full-text access counts. A report which could include BR1
and/or BR2 in addition to JR1 would provide a more complete full-text
access report.

Counts for searches and text/content access are required in ACRL and IPEDS
statistics, and enhancement of the reporting tools within WMS would improve
efficiency for library staff wishing to use WMS to generate data for our
required statistics reporting.

Current Workaround
Currently, our workaround is an Excel spreadsheet [of data downloaded from
vendors].

Second enhancement request:
https://www.oclc.org/community/enhancements/user_
forms/add-separate-jr1--br1-br2-mr1-and-mr2-counter-usage-
summary-reports-to-eresources-reports.en.html

Add Separate JR1, BR1, BR2, MR1, and MR2 COUNTER Usage Summary Reports to
E-Resources Reports

Description of Enhancement
The current report, Merged COUNTER E-Journal/E-book Usage Summary Report,
includes both JR1 and BR1 COUNTER statistics. The report shows a grand
total that includes both JR1 and BR1, but no separate totals for JR1 and
BR1. ACRL reporting asks for totals for JR1, BR1 and BR2 separately, as
well as asking for a total count for BR1 and MR1, or BR2 and MR2, depending
on what is supplied by a library's vendors. Having standard reports that
contain grand totals that answer standard survey questions would be easier
than having a report where you still have to add up counts for multiple
vendors yourself. It would be preferable to have usage summary reports for
JR1, BR1, BR2, MR1 and MR2, since libraries could use the grand totals as
is, and only add the BR1 and MR1 or BR2 and MR2 totals if they choose.

Issues Enhancement Will Resolve
Libraries could answer the ACRL questions asking for just JR1 or just BR1
or just BR2 totals easily. Libraries could add the grand totals for JR1,
BR1, BR2, MR1 and MR2 as needed, depending on the requirements of ACRL or
other statistical gathering requirements.

Current Workaround
Libraries have to add up each vendors' totals for JR1 and BR1 separately,
since the current usage summary report does not include these totals. While
BR2, MR1 and MR2 are not yet available in the E-Resource Universe, once
they become available, having these usage summary reports available would
save each library the time of having to create their own report from
scratch, if they have Report Designer, and libraries without Report
Designer would have easy access to their BR2, MR1 or MR2 totals.

Please rate and comment on these requests. Thanks.
