Head of Library Systems and Electronic Resource Management
Job Description:
The Library at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio seeks Head of Library Systems and Electronic Resource Management beginning January 2, 2017. This is a full time, 12-month position reporting to the Dean of the University Library. The successful candidate will bring strong collaborative, communicative, and interpersonal abilities in order to provide strategic and operational leadership for the Library. Appointment at Assistant or Associate Professor rank, depending on qualifications; non-tenure track.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Dean of the University Library and working closely with other library managers, the Systems & ERM Librarian position is a position provides technical expertise, day-to-day administration, and broad support for traditional and emerging library software solutions and standards. The incumbent will use a variety of technologies, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to provide the best possible experience for OLLU students, faculty, and staff as they seek, access, and connect to the information through our library systems. This will include first-line support as well as maintenance and implementation in a broad range of systems with primary, sustained focus on the integrated library system (SirsiDynix Symphony) and Worldshare Discovery.
Essential Responsibilities:

  *   Administer, maintain, and support all modules of the Libraries' SirsiDynix system. The Systems Librarian is the primary liaison to SirsiDynix for problem resolution and will be the Libraries' representative to the regional & national user groups.
  *   Oversight of print and digital resources acquisitions (including databases); design and implement workflows from trial and licensing to purchase and renewal. Oversite of materials budgets for books, periodicals, and databases.
  *   Select, implement, and maintain an Electronic Resource Management module.
  *   Research & recommend emerging library technologies to improve end user support and collection maintenance; may extend to technology solutions for end user services.
  *   Work with the Web Services Librarian, OLLU ITS and Library staff, and vendor technical support to manage other platforms and servers such as EZProxy, Worldshare Discovery, Springshare (library website), and Ebsco Full Text Finder.
  *   Supervise, train, and evaluate the Web Services Librarian, 1FTE acquisitions technician and .5 FTE work study students. Some duties may be shared with the Cataloging Librarian and/or Copy Cataloger.
  *   Collaborate with the Cataloging and User Services Librarians to develop policies for the library's catalog, including importing vendor records, linked data, etc., and manage migration to a new system.
  *   Work with the Cataloging Librarian to ensure accuracy of points of access for journals (through Ebsco's Full Text Finder) and books (through Symphony catalog).
  *   Assist Dean with preparation of a Request for Proposal for a new library services platform (to be implemented AY1819).
  *   Participate in user services planning and project management.
  *   Oversight of helpdesk ticketing system (SysAid).
  *   Assessment of unit effectiveness (annual); recommend and implement improvements.
Required Qualifications:

  *   A Master of Library Science (MLS), Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), Master of Science in Library Science (MSLS), Master of Information Science (MIS) or an equivalent degree; will consider applicants with a non-MLS master's degree who meet all other qualifications.
  *   Effective communication, interpersonal, organization, analytical, and problem solving skills with an ability to work with a widely diverse group of people.
  *   Two years of Info systems experience in library or similar setting.
  *   Two years FT experience in managing an integrated library system or managing e-resources or acquisitions.
  *   Ability to work effectively in a team setting and independently in a changing environment and to accept direction from one's supervisor.
  *   Proficiency with one or more scripting languages and coding HTML/CSS (advanced programming skills desired).
  *   Knowledge of cataloging principles and authority/metadata schema, including Dublin Core, MARC and RDA.
  *   Evidence of increasing levels of responsibility and leadership.
  *   Knowledge of emerging trends and practices with linked data, semantic web applications, ontologies, and authority/identifier initiatives related to metadata.
  *   Experience supervising and managing librarians and staff.
  *   In-depth library technology and systems knowledge and skills.
  *   Evidence of project management experience.

  *   Must be able to respect, support, and contribute to the University's mission and strategic plan.
Preferred Qualifications:

  *   Second master's degree or advanced degree.
  *   Bachelor's degree in library science, computer science, information management or related field plus at least two years of exp with ILS and discovery systems.
  *   Three years' experience supporting an integrated library system, platforms, and software in an academic library setting.
  *   Experience in supporting library specific software, e.g. OCLC Connexion, ILLIAD, MarcEdit and library specific hardware, e.g. label printers, production scanners etc.
  *   Experience supporting web based content management systems.
  *   Familiarity with image-based or text-based digital repositories (ContentDM, Digital Commons, etc.).
  *   Working knowledge of non-MARC metadata standards (e.g., Dublin Core, METS, MODS, VRA, etc.).
  *   Familiarity with library technology standards and protocols such as RDA. FRBR, OAI/PHM.
  *   Experience developing requests for vendor proposals/quotes/information for library systems procurement.
  *   Knowledge of the continuous improvement cycle and assessment strategies.
  *   Familiarity with EZProxy or III WAM.
  *   Working knowledge of the database technologies such as MySQL, Microsoft Access or FileMaker used to store, manipulate, and query structured data.
  *   Experience in managing, implementing or integrating with any discovery layers such as Worldshare, Encore, Summon, or Primo, etc.
  *   Experience in programming using Visual Basic, JQuery, Perl, PHP, JavaScript or other programming languages.
