[Eril-l] JSTOR Content Updates

I used to follow the updates but stopped receiving regular emails. These days I go to JSTOR’s “Holdings At My Institutions” and download what is basically an entitlement list (presumably keyed to your IP address). I check for new titles that overlap our print periodicals, and I load the JSTOR journal holdings into our catalog. The Millennium ERM Coverage Load adds brief bibs and holdings for new titles, and updates coverage info for pre-existing records for the moving walls. I do this twice a year, once in January and once in summer.

Side note: I’m tasked with maintaining e-journal data in our catalog. I don’t know exactly when JSTOR updates moving walls or adds new titles, and I don’t know when the link resolver implements these changes. Historically at my institution, JSTOR always took precedence for fully cataloging the e-journal bibs. So basically I’ve been taking the JSTOR entitlement list to update the catalog, whereas for all other journals I mostly use link resolver holdings. This could be incorrect thinking on my part. YMMV.

This hasn’t been my experience (not receiving any JSTOR update emails). They are infrequent but I believe I’ve received two in the last two years, maybe more.
