[Eril-l] Anyone else having trouble accessing Oxford UP articles ??

Changing the title-level journal URL to https:// works. However, once there, clicking through to the archive does not work. So we can't see any content but the current issue. I reported this using the jnlorders at oup.com<mailto:jnlorders at oup.com> address, as instructed, and got a canned "we received your message and will get back to you within 48 hours" reply.

Hear, hear! Instead of sharing news of this impending change, we found out about it when our users couldn't access Oxford content, with no chance for proactive measures. And talk of a "solution" leaves us unclear as to whether we need to make local fixes or if Oxford is working on it. This was poorly handled.

Athena is so right about the browser and other issues...and on top of these problems, they are claiming that the change is working for most of their customers and only some libraries are effected.

Thanks & Regards.
Anjana.

It seems that Oxford created a problem that affects the majority (if not all) of their customers, but is responding as if it were a problem caused by individual browsers and institutional settings.

This sentence troubles me because it may mislead libraries into hunting for the Oxford Journals SSL certificate or trying to "set up [the certificate] for Oxfordjournals.org":
the institution will need to have an SSL certificate installed and set-up for the Oxfordjournals.org domain

Typically, libraries will have an SSL certificate for their EZproxy. They would then put the appropriate vendor stanza in the config.txt file. We at UCF have a SSL certificate and access many eResources that use SSL/https. They did not give us any problems, even during their transition from http to https.

I implore Oxford to find a solution that works for their customers. This is not a library-by-library problem.

OUP links do not work from Pubmed, Scopus nor Web of Science, the dois from CrossRef do not resolve, ( and I thought that was the whole point of having dois, that it doesn't matter if the publisher changes urls...) and the ezproxy stanza from the OUP page is
out of date http://www.oxfordjournals.org/en/help/tech-info/ezproxyconfig.txt.

I think that everyone is having problems with OUP.

thanks

Hi all,

A brief update from OUP. As I had explained yesterday, in order to provide more secure browsing access to OUP-hosted journals, OUP have moved all our journals to be hosted on https: web pages. This change took effect on Tuesday, and some customers have experienced an issue when accessing our journals. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and are working with our customers individually to resolve all issues as quickly as possible.

Individual users should confirm that they are using either the current or previous version of any major browser. Institutional access issues may point to an issue with a proxy/network configuration setting. If access fails for all up-to-date browsers, please consult your Network Team to check proxy/network settings. To access a journal via a proxy using https:, the institution will need to have an SSL certificate installed and set-up for the Oxfordjournals.org domain. Again, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. For support, please contact us at one of the e-mail addresses listed below. Thank you for your patience while we resolve reported issues.

We apologize to all customers who are currently having problems accessing our journals site. In order to provide more secure browsing access to OUP hosted journals, we have moved all our journals to be hosted on https: web pages. This change took effect yesterday, and should be transparent to most customers. Our IT department is working to replicate customer issues now. If you are having access issues, please e-mail our customer services team at jnlorders at oup.com<mailto:jnlorders at oup.com> with subject line "HTTPS Journals". It would be very helpful if you can include the web browser and version you are using. We will be happy to keep this list posted as the issue is resolved.

Thank you for your patience.

Sincerely,
Patricia Hudson

Hi everyone,

Due to the large size of the initial email on this thread, our email list is holding most responses due to size limitations. If you tried to respond to Sara or would like to respond, please reply to this message instead of the initial one.

Thanks!
