[Eril-l] Which Conference?

Hi, Kathy!

I regularly go to ER&L and NC Serials (as it’s literally down the street from my office), and I’ve been to Charleston. I most definitely recommend ER&L as a first choice of these three. It’s my favorite for this area, and you can meet lots of good colleagues both on the librarian and publisher side who can act as resources and connections, as well as learn a LOT about all sorts of things.

NC Serials is very good for journals, but it’s a lot smaller than ER&L. I think it’s great for a small regional conference, but it’s a small regional conference. NC Serials is short and very inexpensive, so maybe you could add it on as a second conf even with ER&L or whatever. If you want one more focused on serials issues rather than e-resources in general, I’d go with NASIG as others have suggested, unless you are also in the Carolinas or VA.

I’d probably still pick ER&L as my first choice in your situation, but I’ve never been to NASIG. I have heard really excellent things about it, though, so…

Subject: [Eril-l] Which Conference?

Hello Colleagues,

Although not new to Libraries, I am new to the role of Electronic Resources Librarian. Our travel budget is very limited, but I have received permission to attend a conference this year. What would be your collective recommendations as to which one to attend, as a"newbie"? My goal is to learn as much as possible about not only Electronic Resources management but Print serials management as well. So far I am considering The ER & L conference in Austin in April, and the NC Serials conference in March. I would also consider the Charleston Conference in November, (although it's not focused solely on electronic resources and may be too large for a first timer? )

AM I missing any?

Thanks so much in advance for your advice!

Kathy
