ALCTS webinar: Strategies for Effective Library Communication

Date: Wednesday, August 26, 2015

All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11am Pacific, noon
Mountain, 1pm Central, and 2pm Eastern time.

Description: The key to any well-run organization is effective
communication. Need help sharpening your communication skills? Handling
problem personalities? Maximizing your efforts through cooperation and
collaboration? This webinar will provide tips and tactics to ensure
successful interpersonal communication encounters with supervisors,
subordinates, colleagues, and co-workers. Foster collegiality, connections,
and cooperation with others through open communication that recognizes
relational as well as information needs.

Learning outcomes:

Participants will learn practical strategies that focus on:

* How to enhance internal service excellence.

* How to communicate more effectively.

* Principles of assertive and open communication.

* Positive approaches to problematic people.

* How to ask for and receive help from others.

* Effective collaboration.

* Principles of cross-generational cooperation.

* How and when to delegate, to share responsibility, and to empower others.

and staff members

Presenter: Marie L. Radford, Ph.D. is Professor in the Department of
Information and Library Studies, at the Rutgers School of Communication &
Information. Her dynamic presentation style is well-known for presentation
of frequent workshops/webinars on topics that include: assessment,
professional communication, time management, customer service excellence,
conflict management, and positive approaches to problematic people. Her
latest book is: Leading the Reference Renaissance (Neal-Schuman, 2012). She
received the 2010 ALA/RUSA Mudge Award for distinguished contributions to
reference service.
