<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Portico works in several ways: they trigger some content as fully open access, and some content is triggered for members-only (all members get all member-only triggered content, even if you were not an original
subscriber/buyer with the publisher itself). How content is triggered depends on the agreements between the publishers & Portico. See their
<a href="https://www.portico.org/coverage/triggered-content/">triggered list/Kbart</a>. For example, a while back they opened up the
<a href="https://www.portico.org/news/portico-access-alert-13-morgan-claypool-ebook-series/">
Morgan & Claypool Colloquium books</a> as fully open access, which were titles we previously bought from the original publisher. They also offer to provide
<a href="https://www.portico.org/for-participants/#pca">perpetual access</a> at the Portico platform if Portico has the content and the publisher can’t provide it to you on their platform and you’re supposed to have the perpetual (if you’re a Portico member).

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Clockss triggers all of its content as fully open access, and you don’t need to be a member to reap those benefits. However the hard work of their staff & infrastructure requirements of course benefit from
folks supporting their efforts in general. They recently triggered the journal <a href="https://clockss.org/triggered-content/heterocycles/">
Heterocycles</a>, which was a title some of our campuses had asked about, and I was happy to tell them it had been preserved by Clockss.

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">They are both great organizations providing a vital service, and I think supporting many avenues for digital preservation is beneficial (if you have the funds). But Portico does provide specific members-only
services & access to some content. I’m not sure how much overlap there may be across publishers that are preserving content in one, or the other, or both services. Here’s a useful
