Description: Managing electronic resources at an academic library is a daunting task, even for librarians with extensive experience in that role. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for e-resources librarians to lack training, staff
support, and adequately documented workflows. How do you identify learning opportunities? Where do you turn for support? We can help get you started. Join two electronic resources librarians who will discuss how to overcome self-directed learning hurdles,
introduce the basics of electronic resources management, and offer suggestions about where to go for information and resources that can help you immediately and as you progress in your new role. Following this session, you will possess a better understanding
of the myriad challenges faced by librarians new to e-resources management. You can reference the e-resource lifecycle to guide your self-directed training, identify various approaches and resources for e-resource learning, customize your own self-learning
plan, and implement a process for crafting and retaining critical workflows and policies. The presenters will emphasize the need for a centralized support network for electronic resources librarians and staff and offer suggestions for how to create one.

About the Presenters:

Chris Vidas has been the Electronic Resources Librarian at Clemson University since 2018. He is also currently serving as the Interim Head of Acquisitions, a title he has held since summer 2021. Prior to this position, Chris
has served in e-resources roles at Ball State University and other academic institutions. He first began managing electronic resources unexpectedly at Salisbury University before dedicated e-resources positions were common, so he has a lot of experience with
self-learning and seeking guidance on best practices for e-resources management. He also has experience with position transitions that have worked well and those that were not well-organized, and he looks forward to sharing information from his varied experiences
with attendees.

Eve Stano is the Collections Development and Electronic Resources Librarian at Ball State University in Indiana. She spent several years in public libraries furthering an interest in collection development before transitioning
to academic libraries. She has been a book reviewer and freelance writer for Library Journal for over eight years. She is currently co-chair for the Academic Libraries of Indiana Mentorship Committee, working to develop state-wide mentorship resources for
academic librarians at any stage of their career. Early in 2020, she added e-resources management to her responsibilities in addition to collection development. Being the sole electronic resources librarian at a large research university, Eve has put self-learning
to the test and hopes to share some tools, knowledge and resources with other librarians managing e-resources to help make their own self-learning journey a little easier.
