of the committee of management for the Health Services Union of Western Australia. Being active has certainly helped in getting support behind health librarians in this state. In fact a win we had flowed through to all public sector government employed librarians.
We have recognition as a group of employees called ‘specified callings’ – this has an industrial relations meaning that recognises the requirement for university qualifications in order to take up certain positions such as librarians, physiotherapists, social
workers etc etc.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

rectify the power imbalance implicit in an employment relationship. It is not necessarily an adversarial relationship (though it can be where warranted). Respect for employees requires we are paid a fair living wage that reflects the skills and responsibilities
we are expected to bring to a job. When employers work positively with unions everyone benefits.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
