Yes, please! And how about the emails offering authentication "solutions" that publishers are sending directly to library users? It causes unnecessary anxiety on the part of faculty who do not realize that nothing has changed for them.

How about not sending them to faculty at all? That *would* be helpful.

I am following up on this in case there are publishers watching this list and see this suggestion. I appreciate that publishers are trying to be helpful with enhanced access, but another way you can help would be to make your remote access
notices more library centric. I keep seeing notices on publisher sites explaining how to gain access via institutional email address (if setup), or login in via Shibboleth, and other options, but these messages often do NOT mention the library. Please, please
add as the first option that they start their search on their institutional library website. This is a great time to get them into the habit of starting on the library website where they will be passed through using whatever authentication method that the
library has chosen. Some publisher sites mention proxy, but most users will not know what this means or won’t know that equates to going to the library site. Every situation is different so sending users to their library is the best way to get them to
not just your resources, but all library resources.

I agree with you... it's not something we want to do either. Additionally, our SSO is controlled centrally for the entire system, so there is no differentiation between campuses in our SSO. Turning on SSO for one, turns it on for all (and
maybe, in the current situation, the vendor doesn't care). So without knowing how SSO will control access, it doesn't seem wise for vendors to equate SSO with their expected access control.

publisher sites. What are your thoughts on publishers doing this automatically? I am especially frustrated because they emailed with an offer 2 weeks ago and I purposefully did not respond. Then they emailed again recently requiring an opt-out and I opted
out. Turns out, they did it anyway. I believe this is more confusing to users when only a few are setup this way and of course, more things for us to troubleshoot and manage. Campus IT handles SSO for us and they really do not need extra work or complaints
