useful, along with the Recommended articles sidebar, but I think
it works well for us because we have a large subscription
package. It appears to default, or at least favor, our licensed
content, so our users being presented with additional relevant and
accessible articles is something of a bonus. On a side note, we
see only the "other users also viewed" dialog when downloading a
PDF--the choice to download all articles doesn't appear for us
unless "Download PDFs" is specifically clicked at the top of the
issue screen without selecting any articles first.<br>

That said, I can see how this would be a serious problem with
unmediated PPV. However, it's not a new feature--for us at least,
it goes back to the last Science Direct design refresh a few years
or so ago--so if you're just now starting to see it, perhaps
something has changed in your ScienceDirect setup, or the code in
the feature has changed in how it interprets availability. I
think it would be worth it to take it up with Elsevier to see if
the function can be suppressed for you.<br>

We’ve recently noticed the introduction of a new “feature” in
ScienceDirect, described by a user below. Has anyone else
noticed this and had any success in getting it turned off? Since
our ScienceDirect access is mostly unmediated pay-per-view
(PPV), with few direct subscriptions, and we are seeing
skyrocketing demand, this is particularly problematic for us.
