Our community is a tight knit group of remarkable individuals interested in intellectual inquiry and making a difference in the world.<br><br>Requirements<br><br>Senior Electronic Resource Specialist, Electronic Resources and Serials Unit – Main Campus Libraries<br><br>The Electronic Resources & Serials Unit is responsible for ordering, invoicing, and maintaining the Library’s electronic resources and print serials. It oversees the checking-in and binding of print serials, standing orders, and government documents. <br><br>The Senior Electronic Resource Specialist, under the general direction of the Unit Head, Electronic Resources & Serials, ensures timely access to our entitlements (i.e., purchased library materials in all formats) through the loading of vendor supplied records for e-books, e-journals, digital and print materials into the Library system. Duties include but are not limited to:<br><br>Electronic Resource Access & Technical Support<br><ul><li>Manages and maintains information in electronic resources discovery tools, Serials Solutions, and LibGuides Work includes managing subscription details, customizing journal package title lists, coverage dates, and payment data.<br></li><li>Collaborates with Library Information Technology (LIT) on resolving difficult e-resources related technical issues.<br></li><li>Serves as an expert resource to the E-resources specialists to provide guidance in resolving difficult trouble shooting issues.<br></li><li>Provides time-sensitive, complex electronic resources technical support to library users.<br></li><li>Resolves and record problems/solutions in electronic resources technical support log.<br></li><li>Keeps current on all technological changes in database and software updates.<br></li><li>Participates in examining new technologies for managing electronic resources.<br></li><li>Provides electronic resources related statistics as and when needed for decision making.<br></li></ul><br>Database and Records Management <br><ul><li>Oversees the receipt, editing and downloading of all vendor provided electronic records for all materials purchased by the library into applicable systems.<br></li><li>Reviews and receive vendor supplied EDI (electronic invoicing) files for all newly acquired library materials online; follow special processing instructions; process electronic invoices for all resources.<br></li><li>Manages and performs batch records management work in library systems, including the electronic resources management system (ERMS) and the integrated library system, to batch update records and to correct errors in holdings metadata and bibliographic records.<br></li><li>Provides ongoing data review and analysis of print/electronic/non-print materials and their metadata, including quality assurance.<br></li><li>Oversees and leads the creation of brief metadata records for discovery for all electronic resources which have no vendor provided records, as well as other resources in a variety of formats, subjects and languages using both MARC and non-MARC metadata schemas, under the direction of and following procedures and guidelines set by the Metadata Services Unit.<br></li><li>Receives reviews, edits and downloads all Government Document files into the Library system.<br></li><li>Oversees assigned Technical Services projects in collaboration with other departments/units within Lauinger library and with other GU libraries.<br></li><li>Assists in the supervision and training of students.<br></li></ul><br>Acquisitions of Electronic Resources<br><ul><li>Processes requests for new database and periodicals acquisitions – maintaining communications with Head of Collections, Research, and Instruction and Unit Head of Electronic Resources & Serials.<br></li><li>Assists in selecting appropriate vendors and vendor supplied record formats.<br></li><li>Creates bibliographies, orders records, and process invoices.<br></li><li>Serves as an expert resource to other e-resources specialists, guiding and advising them in complicated acquisitions related questions.<br></li><li>Participates in processing invoices, and regularly communicates with Unit Head of Electronic Resources & Serials regarding license reviews.<br></li><li>Communicates with vendors/publishers regarding issues related to subscriptions, renewals, and payment.<br></li><li>Performs database and periodicals renewals processes, to include review of pricing and cost shares.<br></li><li>Tracks and communicates with partner libraries (Blommer, Dahlgren, Law, Qatar, Woodstock, and Kennedy Institute of Ethics) regarding shared subscriptions.<br></li><li>Tracks newly acquired or deselected resources and updates systems to reflect the changes.<br></li><li>Performs other responsibilities as needed, including library contributions and professional development.<br></li></ul><br>Requirements<br><ul><li>Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience - Masters of Library (and Information) Science from an ALA-accredited institution highly preferred<br></li><li>2+ years of library experience in electronic resources and/or metadata/cataloging services within an academic or research library setting or equivalent experience with Library Systems database maintenance activities<br></li><li>Familiarity with Windows desktop, word processing, e-mail, and internet resources and tools<br></li><li>Superior problem-solving and organizational skills, as well as attention to detail<br></li><li>Ability to adapt to rapid change, to exercise creativity and initiative, and to analyze production-related issues and organize workflow to maximize efficiency<br></li><li>Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a complex and changing environment and consult with supervisor as needed<br></li><li>Flexibility to take on new responsibilities and projects<br></li></ul><br>Preferred qualifications<ul><li>Familiarity with electronic resources management systems such as Serials Solutions<br></li><li>Experience with an integrated library system such as Innovative Interfaces<br></li><li>Experience with loading vendor supplied records into an automated library system and with electronic resources support systems, such as LibGuides, EZproxy, and Summon<br></li><li>Experience with a national bibliographic utility such as OCLC<br></li><li>Knowledge of MARC and non-MARC metadata formats, such as but not limited to METS, MODS, and Dublin Core<br></li></ul>Georgetown University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer fully dedicated to achieving a diverse faculty and staff.
