Hello,

We recently lost access to a backfile package we licensed in 2009 in
what was called a "one-time purchase" with annual maintenance fee.
The societies have basically taken away this product and are now
offering to sell it back to us as part of a larger (and dramatically
more expensive) package; they've offered us a small credit toward
the new purchase, but no grace access while we decide. They claim
that this change was well-publicized, but I have been unable to find
any communication from them that indicated the old archive product
would actually be discontinued. Our subscription agent was likewise
caught off guard. We received no communication prior to the loss of
our access, and were unaware until a user reported it. We were
wondering how other libraries are handling this situation.

The societies in question are American Society of Agronomy, Crop
Science Society of America, and Soil Science Society of America,
operating under the umbrella of ACSESS, Inc.

The lost content is primarily the following journals: Agronomy
Journal, Crop Science, Journal of Environmental Quality, and Soil
Science Society of America Journal, from date of first publication
to 1999.

Thanks,
