[Eril-l] [EXT]: EBSCO eBooks and Thorium Reader?

Erin,

Thanks for this input – we’re not on the new platform until the 19th & I’m hoping it will be a smooth transition.

Given what you’ve written about EZProxy, it sounds like if we are already using OpenAthens for authenticating into other EBSCO stuff – EDS, databases – that the cutover for ebooks will have the epubs & pdfs working properly?

Thanks,

Hello Dan,

Does your institution use a proxy server? EBSCO had to make changes so that we could download EPUB and PDF files. Like you, we had only been getting .ascm files until they made those changes. Customer support said that it was because we used a proxy server as our authentication method.

Good luck!

Erin

Hello all.

(Never ever ever be one of a vendor's first guinea pigs...)

Has anyone figured out how to download EBSCO ebooks with Thorium Reader?

Yes, I click Download and select it gives me a passphrase, but just like with former Adobe Digital Editions it does not save it as EPUB or PDF, but as an ASCM file. And ASCM files are not of the "Supported Extensions" in Thorium Reader.

Sorry, McGill, but on https://libraryguides.mcgill.ca/ebooks/thorium, you indicate "...the file will have a file suffix of .lcpl". And the passphrases I am getting don't resemble "aurora-harmony-stellar-621" like you have in your screenshots. Mine are like this: 6C2BZJZWEiYuJCXyBzw2

Was there something I was supposed to set up in EBSCO and/or Thorium to get this all to work?

Anyone from EBSCO itself on this ERIL-L channel who can answer this?

Please let me know. Thank you.

Dan
