[Eril-l] Counter Reports

I don't know what Celus does, but just want to remind everyone that the COUNTER standard only requires providers to keep hosting data for "2 years plus current year". So unless you are saving your data in some way to use later, you might not be able to get 3 full years. Many providers choose to provide 3 or more years, but many, including "big" ones, stick to that exact requirement.

I also use the 3-year rule for averaging uses/denials for subscription/cancellation decisions.

FYI, I'm a bit late in releasing 2.0 with a GUI for my 5.1 COUNTER API Harvester, but I am hoping to have it done within a couple of weeks, if anyone wants a free (open source) tool. And all of the data accumulates in a database so you wouldn't have to worry about that "2+" rule.

Hi Paula,

I believe Celus has a way to create a report without duplication of 5.0 and 5.1. I think it is called something like "interest" in the system. Maybe ask your Celus rep?

We look at the average usage of 3 years for our journals. This avoids cancellation of a title that may have low usage due to a course only taught every other year (or an earlier access outage).

Hope this helps.
Best,
Sally

EXTERNAL MESSAGE

Hi,

We are getting ready for our FY26 renewal season. The bulk of our renewals happen mid-October and into November. My supervisor uses cost per use as one criterion in her decision making process. Our renewals are mainly journal subscriptions. We have been using Celus to create reports using the different platforms and unique item requests. I am wondering how others are handling the months that overlap between C5.0 and C5.1. Also, part of my job was to only retrieve the data without interpreting it, but now I’m beginning to do both. If you have any tips or recommendations on how to do this, I would be thankful if you’d share.
