Everyone, thank you for your informative and thorough responses, I appreciate it!
Overall, it sounds like this is a resource that is difficult to manage in an academic library setting, both on the practical and administrative end. I'll wish our business faculty the best of luck with their future negotiations in procuring and managing it.
Thank you again,
Dana

Hi Dana -
Our campus just recently started putting in Bloomberg Terminals. The funding is from a donor who also funded establishment of a new "center" focused on business and global leadership (Burgess Institute for the Global Economy) that is headed by a professor in our international business & marketing program. We are undergraduate only - we don't have a business school. The terminals are being placed in multiple locations around our small campus — several in the building where most business & economics classes are taught, one in the library proper, another in the Quantitative Reasoning Center located within the library building, one in the Career Center. We were told they were coming, but are still navigating the level of support that library staff may be expected to provide. There are self-help materials at the terminal in the library. Training sessions to date have been taught by faculty in relevant academic departments, not librarians. We do not have a "business librarian" position.

Hi Dana,
Our College of Business has Bloomberg Terminals located in their building. They are entirely responsible for the cost, contract, training, troubleshooting, etc. They didn't consult the library at all and in fact, if I didn't have a friend in the Finance Department, the library probably wouldn't even know they had the terminals. We are down to just five librarians for an FTE creeping up on 10,000, so we do not have subject librarians. Unfortunately, this means that we have limited relationships in a variety of departments. Other than accessing our tax database, the College of Business does not contact us. I almost wish we had a part in the Bloomberg Terminals because it may have been the foot in the door we needed to establish some kind of relationship. To my knowledge, they are managing the terminals fine on their own.
Best,
Stephanie

Looking for the collective wisdom of the list, and maybe a special ask from business librarians.
A new finance major has been proposed, and as part of the process for discussion and approval, me and the business library liaison had a conversation about library resource needs with the faculty proposing the program. Ultimately, a Bloomberg Terminal (or a few) would be the goal for providing most of the needs of this program in the next few years. Of course, expenses were discussed, but does anyone have experience with Bloomberg Terminals being located in your library or a split location/access policy with the departments that use them? Or do your business schools/departments have full responsibility for them, including the cost?
For context, we are the single library for the university, there are no departmental libraries.
Any other information you can provide about the resource is welcome.
Thank you in advance!
Dana
