This training series will empower attendees with actionable insights and
practical guidance on accessibility compliance for professionals in the
information community. Attendees will come away with an operational
understanding of what it means to engage in accessible publishing and
methods to ensure their organizations are prepared to achieve accessibility
compliance. The course will cover upcoming regulatory changes;
accessibility standards and best practices; and human-centered web design.
>From production to public relations, Accessibility Essentials will be an
invaluable resource for information practitioners, content or product
development experts, and scholarly communications professionals.
Training Facilitators: Lettie Conrad, Product Experience Architect for
LibLynx and Instructor at San José State University’s School of
Information, and Simon Holt, Senior Product Manager, Content Accessibility

Course Description
Module 1 (April 3): Introductory seminar

We will kick off this seminar series by defining the key terms and
concepts for digital accessibility and inclusive publishing.

Question for the week: What is inclusive publishing, and why do we care
about accessibility?
Module 2 (April 10): Laws and regulations

Lecturer: Will Awad, Accessibility Consultant at iAccessDigital

This module will focus on the regulatory space, addressing key court
cases and legislation that define the legal ramifications of digital
accessibility.

Question for the week: What are the repercussions for non-accessible
content, services, other programs?
Module 3 (April 17): Introduction to accessible publishing

Lecturer: Simon Holt and and *Simon Mellins,* Independent Digital
Publishing Consultant and Accessibility Specialist, Simon Mellins Consulting

This module will guide us to a deeper level of understanding about
accessible publishing and how to establish an accessible program in your
organization.

program look like, and what does it take to achieve?
Module 4 (April 24): Introduction to inclusive design

Lecturers: Lettie Y. Conrad; Bob Liu, User Experience Strategist,
University of Arizona Libraries; and Bridget Burke, Front-end Designer
and Accessibility Expert, University of Michigan Libraries

In this module, lecturers will introduce inclusive and human-centered
design principles and how they align with delivering accessible web design.

and what methods or techniques are involved?
Module 5 (May 1): Standards seminar

Lecturer: Bill Kasdorf, Principal, Kasdorf & Associates, LLC, and
Accessibility Consultant, Publishing Technology Partners

In this module, Bill will provide an intensive session on the prevailing
standards and guidelines for accessible publishing and inclusive design.

Module 6 (May 8): Accessible text-based production

accessible publishing of text-intensive products and services.

accessible publishing of products and services with multimedia and special
formats.

Module 8 (May 22): Looking ahead

We will conclude with a forward-looking module dedicated to planning
accessibility programs and exploring the state of the art in accessible
publishing.
