[Eril-l] interesting choice in new springerlink ezproxy stanza, OA implications

The update today for the Springerlink "stanza<https://help.oclc.org/Library_Management/EZproxy/EZproxy_database_stanzas/Database_stanzas_S/SpringerLink>" for self-hosted Ezproxy libraries has this note, which I've never seen in a stanza before:
"If you want the DOI in the bibliographic information sections of the pages to be proxied, remove these lines from the stanza:" [ followed by some of the lines]
This raises what I think is a rather interesting choice and issue in this day of increasing OA content.
For those who don't work with Ezproxy, we need to maintain a hardcoded list (a 'config' file) of all provider platforms that we want the proxy server to "handle".
If a user tries to follow a URL that is prepended with our proxy server's prefix but that URL is not in that config file, the user gets an error that is probably confusing.
If all of those citations were to publications that are paywalled and we have licensed, we would want to take that option for our patrons.
However, for all of the citations to OA content that is on platforms we don't have in our config, proxying is a Bad Thing.
We don't attempt to maintain config entries for every OA platform out there. Doing that would solve this dilemma, but of course cause much more work and possible problems down the road, not to mention keeping up with all of the new ones that we wouldn't normally know about since we aren't engaging (eg acquisitions sense) with those platforms at all.
And I shudder to think about the "green OA" repositories that assign DOIs and how those would end up being cited in those bibliographies.
I'm curious what you all do?
Do any of you using Ezproxy (or even the legacy-proxy parts of services like OpenAthens) maintain entries for all of the OA platforms you know about?
Do you think Springerlink's choice to offer this option is going to do more harm than good, like I do?
If anyone sees any kind of broader issue in this, I welcome ideas and discussion.
