100% open access?

<https://www.oaspa.org/events/oaspa-2025-conference-programme/> with
timetable now available - see the many speakers and sessions we have
planned over three days.
Today we showcase in a little more detail three of the panels we have
planned. Here is the previous panel showcase communication
<https://mailchi.mp/oaspa/conference-panel-showcase-1> showcasing three
more in case you missed it.
*Panel: Complexity and impacts of transitioning from hybrid to 100% open
access*Moderator: *Cameron Neylon* (Co-founder, Curtin Open Knowledge
Initiative)
*Mandy Hill* (Cambridge University Press)
*Penelope Lewis* (American Institute of Physics (AIP))
*Kathryn Sharples* (Wiley)
*Viewing the conference theme Embracing the complexity - how do we get to
100% OA from the perspective of hybrid-OA publishing in transition. How has
the nature of the transition to OA changed over the last 10 years? Are
hybrid publishers truly transforming? Towards what? What does 'completing'
the transition to OA encompass in today's context, and what are the
complexities and obstacles in getting to a completely transitioned state?
How are hybrid OA publishers responding to old challenges and new issues?
And what is needed from those who pay, fund or invest in publishing to
support the transition to OA? We will gain perspectives from publishers
operating in STM and AHSS disciplines, across commercial, society and
university-based publishing. *
*Parallel Panel: Hello from the other side: views from fully open access
journals using APCs*Moderator: *Catriona MacCallum* (Wiley)
*Roheena Anand* (PLOS)
*Cecile de Villiers* (AOSIS)
*Fiona Hutton* (eLife)
*Stephan Kuster* (Frontiers)
*Stefan Tochev* (MDPI)
*Considering publishing organisations already delivering 100% open access:
are they on a transition journey of their own? Where do challenges around
quality, sustainability, and inclusivity in scholarly publishing lead these
APC-based operations? Does a focus on ‘the transition’ away from paywalls
undermine efforts of those already delivering full open access? Latest
experiences and learnings will be discussed by different publishing
organisations who have experience of using APCs to achieve full open
access. *
*Parallel Panel: Hello from the other side: What’s the story from fully
open access book publishers?*Moderator: *Niels Stern* (OAPEN)
*Beth Bouloukos* (Amherst College Press)
*Fulvio Guatelli* (Firenze University Press)
*Lara Speicher* (UCL Press)
*Wikus Van Zyl* (University of Johannesburg Press)
*Considering organisations already delivering open access books and
exploring what does it mean to be a fully-OA book publisher today?
Experiences, learnings and challenges that arise from having a commitment
to OA books will be shared. This session will also explore OA book
publishing that is springing from within higher-education institutions. Are
these organisations on a transition journey of their own with their book
programmes? How do they handle quality, financial sustainability and
inclusivity in their open book publishing, and what can we learn from the
operations, and the philosophy, of these approaches to open access books?*
