[Eril-l] CD policy around cost sharing ebook purchases?

Our CD policy states that we don’t purchase textbooks. We are a small university with a small budget for the library, and the cost of acquiring (and keeping current) with the textbooks used in even some of the courses would be more than our annual budget. The only way around it is for very specific situations and resources, like McGraw Hill AccessPhysiotherapy – it includes textbooks, but there are enough additional resources for the students that we can justify providing it with library funds. But for the most part, we intentionally refrain from purchasing textbooks that are used in courses on campus.

Subject: [Eril-l] CD policy around cost sharing ebook purchases?

EXTERNAL Exercise Caution
We're looking at our collection policy around requested ebooks, specifically textbooks. We have a very small budget for ebooks in total, so we'd like to come up with some way of cost sharing the purchase price with the requesting department.

Does anyone have any CD policy piece that talks about cost sharing, purchases of textbooks, and/or purchase of ebooks in general? We're hoping to find what other academic libraries are doing in this regard when the requests come in for 20 textbooks andd our budget covers maybe one or two of those.

Please feel free to share off-list as well to either jdgr.library at gmail.com<mailto:jdgr.library at gmail.com> or my work address of j.gilbertredman at und.edu<mailto:j.gilbertredman at und.edu>.

Thank you!
