Hi Julie,

The ISU Library has an Overleaf license, so I checked with our Engineering Librarian who is our in-house expert on it. This is what he had to say:

We've had an Overleaf site license here at Iowa State since 2018, and we split the cost between the library and several colleges on campus. You are right that there is not much for competitive vendors. At the time we first put this out for bid, ShareLaTeX was an option but they have since merged with Overleaf. We sometimes get comments that LaTeX is open source, so I suppose that could be suggested as an alternative, but the learning curve is so steep that it would be impossible (for me) to teach it. Overleaf makes it possible to hold workshops and troubleshoot. We've been happy with their support and with the uptake here on campus.

Is anyone using or have you previously investigated licensing Overleaf at your institution? We have had a few requests and are wondering if they have worthy competitors. I am not finding much online.
