Librarian for Electronic Resources at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA
The Librarian for Electronic Resources manages the acquisition, access, and
renewal of electronic resources, ensuring seamless and reliable access for
all users. This role involves analyzing usage data to inform collection
development, negotiating license agreements, and maintaining accurate
metadata to ensure that Pepperdine Libraries’ resources meet the
ever-changing needs of the university’s academic community. Pepperdine
Libraries’ collections currently include more than 370,000 print volumes,
500,000 ebooks, 65,000 electronic serials, and 130 databases. This
position, which enjoys faculty status, supports the University's mission of
promoting academic excellence and Christian values.
Duties
- Manage Electronic Resources Access, Licensing, and Vendor Relations:
Oversee the acquisition, access, and renewal of electronic resources
including databases, e-journals, and e-books. Negotiate and manage license
agreements with vendors and publishers. Develop and maintain strong
relationships with vendors, staying updated on vendor offerings and market
changes.
- Evaluate and Select Electronic Resources: Assess and select new
electronic resources based on user needs, usage statistics, and
cost-effectiveness. Conduct trials and evaluate feedback to make informed
purchasing decisions.
- Maintain Electronic Resources Metadata: Ensure accurate and consistent
metadata for electronic resources in the library catalog and discovery
systems. Collaborate with cataloging staff to integrate new resources and
update existing records.
- Provide User Education and Support: Offer instruction and support to
library staff and patrons on the use of electronic resources. Develop and
maintain online guides, tutorials, and training materials.
- Analyze Data and Generate Reports: Analyze usage data to inform
collection development decisions. Monitor trends in electronic resource
usage to optimize resource allocation.
- Budget Management: Manage the budget for electronic resources,
including tracking expenditures and ensuring cost-effective resource
management.
- Stay Current with Trends and Technologies: Keep abreast of emerging
technologies and trends in electronic resource management. Participate in
professional development opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications
Required: A master's degree in library science or equivalent. At least
three years of relevant experience in an academic library showing
progressive responsibility in working with stakeholders to select
e-resources that align with the teaching curriculum and research
priorities; demonstrated skill in evaluating the impact of e-resources on
teaching and learning at the undergraduate and graduate school levels;
demonstrated skill in reviewing vendor packages, including carrying out
trials with products and soliciting feedback from users to inform
lease/purchase of resources for the library’s portfolio; practical
experience managing e-resource budgets; experience handling vendor
contracts and licenses. An appreciation for and active commitment to the
university’s Christian mission and a desire to contribute to that mission;
demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusive excellence; demonstrated
sound judgment and emotional intelligence; strong verbal and written
communication skills; ability to lead and work within a collaborative
environment; excellent analytical and organizational skills; excellent
presentation and negotiation skills; knowledge of the scholarly publishing
environment and its current trends. Proficiency with spreadsheets,
analytical and data visualization tools; experience with an integrated
library system.
Preferred: Experience reading and negotiating license agreements;
experience troubleshooting complex library systems. Experience with pivot
tables and advanced spreadsheet features. Experience working with
electronic resources tools, such as OCLC WorldShare Collection Manager and
OCLC License Manager, knowledge bases, and electronic resource management
systems. Experience working with standards such as COUNTER, SUSHI, and
OpenURL.

Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a

This is a Regular, Exempt, 40 hour per week position.
Expected Pay Range: $72,000 - $80,000 per year
The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects
to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary
based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions,
education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine
