Thank you, Kris Ann and Theresa, for your responses. It’s reassuring that apparently, I haven’t missed anything and am on the right track.
It is not a good situation, though. And it routinely flummoxes faculty (and students) who find it hard to fathom why they can’t make use of a movie like this in their instruction. In the most recent instance, the faculty member said they will likely alter their syllabus in future because of the situation, which I think is wise but unfortunate.

Hi Steve,
We also tell faculty that the library, unfortunately, cannot provide streaming access for films and tv shows exclusively available on consumer subscription streaming services (including Disney+, Hulu, Apple TV, etc.). We will purchase DVDs and lend those out, but often that is also not an option.

Hi Steve,
To the best of my knowledge, you are correct to deny the request and that there aren't any really great options.

I may be out of the loop so if someone who is more informed can comment and correct me, please do. We have had several cases locally over the past few years where a faculty member wishes to show the movie, Hamilton, which is exclusively available on Disney+. Due to that platform’s terms and conditions, which specify personal/home use only, I have denied requests. Is there any change here in terms of options to allow it? Other than purchasing public performance rights, I mean?
