The 2024 SLA Midwest Symposium planning committee is publicizing this call for proposals in as many (alternative) channels as we can.



Please feel free to consider submitting a proposal. Also, share the “call for proposals” (below my signature line) with anyone who wears a “specialized” library hat, has an interesting project they’d like to spotlight, works with a library/archives student (or is a student)...Being from the Midwest or a SLA member are not requirements.



The registration cost for this virtual symposium is minimal, and in the past, registration fees were waived for presenters and students...



Each year is different. Interested in what was presented at the 2023 SLA Midwest Symposium?

Exhibits and archives, advocacy work, creating digital content, language metadata table, the power of API, how to be a DAM librarian, building a research library at a biocultural reserve in the Yucatan...

The 2024 SLA Midwest Symposium will take place on Friday, June 7, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Central.

This year the planning committee is looking for proposals on a wide variety of topics related to specialized libraries including (but not limited to):



-Case studies in  data
-Practical uses for library data
-Data visualizations
-Special libraries & artificial intelligence
-Taxonomy & knowledge management
-New careers in special libraries
-Advocacy for special libraries
-Negotiation skills



We also strongly encourage students to propose a session! There will be dedicated time during the event to hear from students about their work.
