Hi, all!

Below is the official message from the professor overseeing the UPEI 2024-25 computer science capstone course.
I have done this many times, acting as the "client" almost always with significant success and useful software at the end.
If any of you have used my free COUNTER 5.0 usage data harvester, that came from this coursework.
All of the projects for me have been open source, and I've never had any pushback about getting the students to formally sign a CC/MIT license.

There is almost no demand on your time in the first semester after you submit the proposal, if you wrote it up with sufficient detail.
The demand on your time mostly comes in March, as the students get down to the details of the user interface etc.
This year they have two options for projects: either a smaller one that is suitable for a team of about 5 students to complete, or a larger one that can be partitioned into subprojects for 3-4 such teams.
In both cases, the client will only need to communicate with a team/project lead and in the second semester, also a technical lead. They in turn communicate with the rest of their teams.

They are very short of proposals this year, so it is very likely to be worth your time to write up and submit one.
If you would like to know more about what it's like from the client side, please contact me off-list and I'd be happy to talk more about my experiences.
