DEPARTMENT: Content and Discovery
REPORTS TO: Associate Director for Content and Discovery
AVAILABLE: Immediately. Review of applications will begin 12/27/23 and continue until the position is filled.

DESCRIPTION
The Electronic Resources and Discovery Librarian provides innovation and expertise for the acquisition, ongoing management, and access to the Duke University Medical Center Library & Archives collection of electronic journals, databases, and books. Under the direction of the Associate Director for Content and Discovery, the Electronic Resources and Discovery Librarian supports the discovery of the Library's resources across multiple systems and serves as the expert for issues related to electronic resources access. In addition, the Electronic Resources and Discovery Librarian contributes to collection assessment and development through selection, review, data analysis, and other activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
E-Resource Management and Troubleshooting (35%)

  *   Provide expertise in the lifecycle management of electronic resources, including ordering, renewing/canceling, invoicing, establishing access, troubleshooting, and usage assessments.
  *   Create and maintain electronic resources metadata, link and catalog records in multiple discovery systems - including the knowledge base and ILS, ensure intuitive, accurate, and stable discovery and access.
  *   Lead e-resource troubleshooting, analyze problem trends, collaborate with internal partners and external vendors to resolve complex issues in a timely manner, provide troubleshooting training to other frontline staff, and serve as a main resource for other library personnel on electronic resources issues. Approach all e-resource issues with an emphasis on providing excellent customer service to patrons.
 Acquisitions (30%)

  *   Coordinate the activities of the day-to-day acquisition, including ordering, receiving, activation, and invoicing for all library materials.
  *   Establish relationships with vendors, publishers, and internal partners such as accounts payable and other campus libraries. Proactively resolve complex issues involving payment, access, and other issues.
  *   Support the annual collections renewal process, including joint purchases with other campus libraries and consortiums, ensuring that all subscriptions are accurate and completed promptly.
  *   Collaborate with the Associate Director for Content and Discovery to investigate, develop, and implement new workflows and initiatives for enhancing library resources management and maximizing users' discovery experience with library resources.
  *   Work with Library Administration and Associate Director for Content and Discovery to monitor and reconcile Library's resource spending.
Collection Development and Management (15%)

  *   Serve on the Library's Resource Selection Committee, work with library staff to identify, evaluate, and recommend new resources.
  *   Participate in ongoing electronic resources and physical collection assessment using various metrics such as inventories, pricing, and usage data.
  *   Compile and prepare collection-related statistics for internal and external reports.
  *   Perform original and complex copy cataloging on physical and electronic resources according to international, national, and local standards and best practices.
  *   Maintain current and in-depth knowledge of acquisitions, cataloging, electronic resource management, and statistics modules of the ILS. Disseminate information about system development and enhancements.
  *   Keep abreast of current issues and trends in acquisitions, licensing, cataloging, and managing access to electronic resources.
 Project Management and Library Operations (10%)

  *   Participate in the implementation of Duke's new integrated library system (ILS), scheduled to go live in Summer 2024.
  *   Provide leadership by coordinating Medical Center Library and Archives projects and initiatives.
  *   Contribute to goal setting for the Content and Discovery department and the Library.
  *   Participate in library committees and task forces.
  *   Approach projects and planning with a broad vision of library services, considering innovative and alternative approaches to traditional services and resources.
 User Services (5%)

  *   Participate in the development and delivery of user services at the service desk, including recommending new services and enhancements.
  *   Train and provide expertise to desk staff and student workers on electronic resources troubleshooting workflows.
  *   Provide user services at the service desk and reference chat service as needed.
 Other Duties (5%)

  *   Provide backup for other Library service units.
  *   Perform other tasks to support Library services and operations.
  *   Serve as Library representative on campus committees and task forces.
  *   Represent the Library in professional library associations, consortiums, and networks.
