Core webinar: Small Library Assessment Hills You Can Climb

Date: Tuesday, June 13, 2023

All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11 am Pacific, noon
Mountain, 1 pm Central, and 2 pm Eastern time.

Description:

We will briefly describe the landscape of library assessment, beginning
with why we do assessment, then quickly cover different methods for
assessment. Presenters will share achievable library projects used in their
own libraries, including examples of some quick accomplishments. The
projects reflect assessing cross-departmental foundation courses,
benchmarking your institution’s data with peer data and presenting that in
a dashboard, handling non-generalizable data, working with advisory boards
or focus groups and gathering student feedback. All of the projects might
be accomplished relatively quickly in a new assessment librarian’s first
year or that could fit in with other responsibilities that those interested
in assessment have. While the examples are from academic libraries, other
libraries could adapt the projects for their own organization.

Learning outcomes:

At the end of this webinar, the attendees will be able to:

   -

   Describe the purpose of assessment in academic libraries.
   -

   Describe several small assessment projects that could be accomplished
   relatively quickly.

Who should attend?

New Assessment Librarians and librarians with assessment in their job
responsibilities

Presenters:

Anita Hall is the Assessment & Analytics Librarian at the University of
Louisville Libraries. Prior to UofL she worked in a variety of academic
libraries large and small, with a focus on assessment as the throughline.

Julene Jones is the Director of Library Assessment and the Organizational
Effectiveness Librarian at the University of Kentucky. Prior to this she
was the Head of Database Integrity at University of Kentucky Libraries
where she was responsible for running reports, maintaining the consistency
of the catalog, and authority control.

Lee Ann Lannom is the Assessment Librarian at the Vanderbilt University
Libraries. Prior to becoming the assessment librarian, she was a subject
librarian at the Peabody Library at Vanderbilt, working with the
departments of Teaching & Learning and Special Education.
