Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) Libraries seek an Open Strategies Librarian who will coordinate the Libraries' engagement with open educational practices including open scholarship, open pedagogy, and open publishing. The successful candidate will be a confident, creative, service-oriented librarian who can: collaboratively partner with faculty and students interested in creating and publicly sharing original educational and scholarly materials; teach and consult with librarians, faculty, and students about open practices; lead project management for EKU library publishing initiatives; work with colleagues on technical aspects of open publishing; and assess our users' experience of these activities using evidence-based approaches centered in inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA). Primary Responsibilities
1. Provides leadership, vision, and support for EKU Libraries' open initiatives in collaboration with library liaisons, faculty, and other campus stakeholders in order to advance teaching, learning, and researching with openly licensed resources.
2. Translate ideas and projects developed with partners into actionable workflows and infrastructure in the library to support a sustainable, growing, library open digital publishing program.
3. Work with the Associate Director of Metadata and Discovery to ensure best practices for metadata and discoverability of published content and to optimize the user experience of EKU Libraries' open publishing platforms (Bepress, Manifold, and Pressbooks), focusing on universal design and accessibility.
4. Collaborate with the Director of Collections and Discovery on initiatives to support the expansion of open initiatives through grant proposals and other strategies.
5. Provide virtual and/or face to face reference coverage and serve as liaison to designated academic department(s). Liaisons promote library instruction, spaces, services, and resources for students and seek opportunities to partner with and support faculty and staff.
6. Remain knowledgeable about trends, best practices, and technology related to academic librarianship in general, scholarly communication, publishing digital collections, and open educational practices by participating in continuing education opportunities.
7. Demonstrate a commitment to the library, university, and profession through relevant scholarship and service activities
Minimum Qualifications
* Education: MA/MS in Library/Information Studies from an ALA accredited program.
* Experience: One year related experience.
* Knowledge of academic research and publishing processes.
* Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
* Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
* Strong technical capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
* Certification in Creative Commons, OER Librarianship, or related.
* Experience working with platforms used in library-based publishing programs.
* Experience developing and managing support services for scholars and teachers.
* Experience planning, developing, and promoting innovative outreach programs and services.
* Knowledge of fair use, author's rights, copyright, and open licensing
