Annual Reviews continues successful open access conversion using Subscribe to Open

Nonprofit scientific publisher Annual Reviews has converted more than half of all its 2023 journal volumes to open access using Subscribe to Open (S2O) with conversion of its remaining journal volumes anticipated by the end of the year.  The move to open access has resulted in a two- to three-fold increase in downloads.

S2O is an innovative model that makes use of existing scholarly publishing processes and infrastructures and follows new principles on pricing transparency. It is being adopted by many publishers with the support of the S2O Community of Practice, a diverse group of librarians, researchers, publishers, and funders working together to advance the model.
