Core webinar: Servant Leadership Principles Applied Practically

Date: Tuesday, May 9, 2023

All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11 am Pacific, noon
Mountain, 1 pm Central, and 2 pm Eastern time.

Description:

We all work with other people, either directly or indirectly. How
individuals or colleagues work together matters and has a significant
impact on an individual’s well-being, the entire organization, and the
quality of service provided to our patrons. If you are in a position of
authority within a library, the way you lead and manage the people in your
department, on your team, committee, or working group matters. Seasoned
leaders Cynthia Schwarz and Kellie Barbato will draw from principles of
servant leadership and discuss practical tools to be a more compassionate,
empathetic leader and manager.

Learning outcomes:

At the end of this webinar, the attendees will:

   -

Understand the basic principles of servant leadership and how it differs
from other leadership and management styles.
   -

Understand recommended priorities for supervision and developing staff
   that encourage compassion and empathy.
   -

Learn practical techniques for implementing these priorities with your
   teams and those you manage.

Who should attend?

Anyone who is interested in leadership, regardless of whether they are
currently in a leadership position. Audience members could also include
those that lead committees or working groups and not necessarily in a
position of direct supervision.

Presenters:

Cynthia Schwarz is the Assistant Director for Library Technology at Temple
University Libraries in Philadelphia. In this role, she oversees two
departments, directly supervises six people and indirectly impacts the work
of several more. Prior to her role as assistant director, Cynthia worked
her way up through Temple Libraries first as Systems Administrator and then
as Senior Systems Librarian. She has an MLIS from Drexel University and is
passionate about compassionate supervision and servant leadership.

Kellie Barbato currently serves as Director of Library Services at Roberts
Wesleyan University in Rochester, NY. Prior to this role, she served as
Director of Lineberger Memorial Library at the Columbia, SC campus of
