Free Preservation Week Core webinar: Networking Strategies Improve Disaster
Readiness

Date: Thursday, May 4, 2023

All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11 am Pacific, noon
Mountain, 1 pm Central, and 2 pm Eastern time.



Description:

Alliances between public and institutional entities provide improved
strength and resilience to disasters through recognizing common core
values, creating new partnerships and sharing resources. Examples will be
provided of successful relationships and challenges they managed that can
inspire new partnership models for collection leadership to pursue. This
webinar seeks to inform attendees about how networking and the
establishment of alliances improves disaster readiness, mitigates loss, and
increases institutional and community resilience.

Learning outcomes:

After the webinar attendees will be aware of a wide variety of potential
institutional allies and programs that will help them build or expand
networks to improve disaster preparedness and response to better protect
their collections.

Who should attend?

Library and archive managers and conservators responsible for planning and
developing disaster plans and response capabilities for their institutions.

Presenters:

Steve Pine worked as a conservator at the MFA Houston for 32 years and
President and a founding member of the Texas Collections Emergency Resource
Alliance (TX-CERA). As a member of the American Institute for Conservation
(AIC) he served as Chair of the Wooden Artifacts group and the Emergency
Committee. He is an active member of the National Heritage Response team of
the Foundation for the Advancement in Conservation. Steve has deployed as
part of these groups following Hurricanes Katrina, Ike, Sandy, Harvey. In
2018 he was awarded the AIC’s President’s Award for his leadership
assisting cultural heritage institutions damaged in the Houston area
following Hurricane Harvey. He lectures and leads workshops on disaster
preparedness and response for cultural heritage resources and building
Alliance for Response networks.
