Job Summary
The Collection and Resource Management Head works collaboratively to develop, manage, and regularly assess library collections that support the teaching, learning, and research needs of the UWM community. The Head provides leadership and direction for a highly effective staff that works across technical service areas, including resource acquisition and renewals, electronic resources life cycle and workflows for continuing resources, physical processing, and basic preservation. Specific areas of responsibility are described below. The ideal candidate will communicate effectively with faculty and other stakeholders, collaborate with other library managers to advance shared goals, and serve as a resource for library staff generally. They will be passionate about library collections, embrace data-informed decision-making, and support their team members in achieving excellence. Reports to the Library Associate Director for Collections and Resources.

Responsibilities:

     *   Under the direction of the Associate Director, manages the general collection budget
     *   Maintains vendor relationships including license negotiations, vendor-led training, and communication
     *   Develops assessment strategies and analyzes quantitative and qualitative data to inform the strategic allocation of the Libraries' collection budget, as well as decision processes for the selection and management of content in all formats
     *   Provides leadership on special projects and initiatives, and implements strategic directions
     *   Participates in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and guidelines
     *   Collaborates with other library managers to advance collection development goals
     *   Communicates with library and campus stakeholders on new and existing content
     *   Maintains knowledge about and contributes to library engagement with emerging trends in collection development and scholarly communication
     *   Provides day-to-day management and oversight of department operations and services
     *   Supervises staff in Collection Management

The starting annual salary for this position is $63,000. The University of Wisconsin System offers a comprehensive benefits package to its employees, including health insurance and employer contribution to retirement. Paid leave benefits for this 12-month appointment include 176 hours vacation, 176 hours sick leave (during the first 18 months and 96 hours thereafter), 36 hours personal holiday, and 72 hours legal holiday. Leave is granted on a fiscal year basis, July 1-June 30. Depending on the start date and percentage of appointment, leave may be pro-rated. Minimum Qualifications

     *   MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited institution
     *   2 years of relevant experience in acquisitions, management, or assessment or equivalent comparable experience
     *   2 years with staff supervision
     *   Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

     *   5 years of relevant experience in acquisitions, management, or assessment or equivalent comparable experience
     *   Collaborative leadership style with strong problem-solving skills
     *   Aptitude for evaluating workflows with an eye toward increasing efficiencies
     *   Record of developing partnerships and communicating effectively
     *   Understanding of current trends and best practices in the selection, acquisition, and management of library collections and resources
     *   Experience developing and maintaining relationships with vendors, including negotiating licensing terms
     *   Experience working in or with an academic library consortium
     *   Familiarity with physical processing, bindery, and basic library preservation techniques
     *   Experience working with diverse populations
