Each day, discussion begins and ends at:

Pacific: 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Mountain: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Central: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Eastern: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Whether you perform original cataloging or copy cataloging, you are an
integral part to the management of library resources. Cataloging is at once
a community-focused task and often very independent. Let’s learn from each
other.

■ What are some authority resources you use most often to ensure you are
following standard practices?
■ How do you go about cataloging a new resource type that you are
unfamiliar with?
■ How have your workflows changed over the last few years?
■ How was that change met and implemented?
■ What new skills are you learning?
■ What advantages and disadvantages have you experienced when learning news
skills during and after the pandemic?
■ What is an interesting or cool material that presents a cataloging
challenge? How was that challenge met?
■ What material would you like to learn about cataloging, given the chance?

Liz Simmons is Systems & Electronic Services Librarian at Genesee Community
College in New York. Prior to moving into this position, she served as the
cataloging librarian and still manages cataloging, along with two part-time
clerks.
Jennifer Eustis is one of the Metadata Librarians at the University of
Massachusetts Amherst. She works primarily with eResources and batch
services and enjoys learning new skills.


Joy DuBose is an Assistant Professor and the Special Collections/Projects
cataloger at Mississippi State University. During her time there she has
worked on a variety of materials from VR programming, non-English
materials, electronic resources, and architectural samples, such as
concrete.

What Is an e-Forum?

A Core e-forum provides an opportunity for librarians to discuss matters of
interest, led by a moderator, through the e-forum discussion list. The
e-forum discussion list works like an email listserv: register your email
address with the list, and then you will receive messages and communicate
with other participants through an email discussion. Most e-forums last two
to three days. Registration is necessary to participate, but it's free.

How to Register

You must register your email address to subscribe to or access an
electronic discussion list on ALA's Mailing List Service. Once you have
registered for one e-forum, you do not need to register again, unless you
