The Texas Christian University is seeking an experienced and versatile Electronic Resources Librarian to support the TCU School of Medicine. This position facilitates and manages the acquisition of electronic and subscription resources for the School of Medicine by coordinating the flow of materials to make them accessible to the TCU community.

ABOUT TCU SCHOOL OF MEDICINE

The TCU School of Medicine, Fort Worth's M.D. school, opened with a class of 60 students in July 2019.  The new allopathic medical school was formed in 2015.  The School of Medicine's focus on communication, a first-of-its-kind curriculum, and the development of Empathetic Scholars(r) uniquely positions the School to radically transform medical education, improving care for future generations.

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1.  Serves as the primary librarian responsible for the development and management of a robust collection of electronic books, databases, journals, and other electronic resources in support of the TCU School of Medicine.
  2.  Communicates effectively with faculty, staff, and students to identify and deliver electronic resources that support the TCU School of Medicine curriculum. Periodically announces new, ceased, and withdrawn electronic resources.
  3.  Works collaboratively with librarians, staff, and faculty in other library departments in the identification and evaluation of electronic resources to support teaching and research at TCU.
  4.  Supervises and manages staff by implementing mechanisms for improvement, evaluating performance, measuring progress, and maintaining quality customer service.
  5.  Builds and maintains strong professional relationships and communications with vendors, publishers, and consortia to obtain product information, preliminary pricing information, and preliminary license information. Reviews and negotiates contracts and licenses for electronic resources to obtain favorable pricing, terms, and conditions, working with TCU legal staff as appropriate.
  6.  Coordinates purchasing and invoicing operations; set up and implementation of thousands of electronic resources; communicates with staff to ensure appropriate implementation and discovery of electronic resources.
  7.  Maintains consistent and reliable operation, delivery of, and access to the library's electronic resources. Activates, troubleshoots, and maintains access to the library's electronic resources including databases and aggregate electronic resources.
  8.  Creates and maintains detailed, accurate, and relevant documentation and records for electronic resources evaluations and acquisitions and maintains, updates, and assesses workflows for electronic resources-related tasks. Manages collection of usage statistics.
  9.  Participates in budgetary oversight by advising on fund allocation; monitors budgetary encumbrances and expenditures for the subject area budgets.
  10. Liaises with the University Financial Services Office by reviewing invoices processed in both the library and university financial systems; checking invoices for accuracy; monitoring vendor statements; running reports, reconciling budgets between the university and library systems, and resolving any discrepancies.
  11. Contributes to the overall operation of the library by serving on committees and task forces as assigned.
  12. Keeps current on emerging trends, practices, and standards in electronic resource management and the health sciences publishing industry; advises library administration of new initiatives that may be beneficial to TCU.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

  *   Masters' of Library Science (ALA accredited)
  *   3 years professional library experience including background in electronic resource acquisition and licensing


Preferred:

  *   Supervisory Experience
  *   Second graduate degree
  *   Second language skills
  *   Collection Development experience
  *   Experience with Open Access resources and familiarity with OA issues
  *   Experience and knowledge with Intellectual property and copyright
  *   Familiarity with metadata and knowledge base management tools such as Serials Solutions


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  *   Knowledge of medical academic library electronic and print resources.
  *   Knowledge of academic library practices.
  *   Ability to organize and execute efficient workflow.
  *   Ability to effectively communicate with staff, vendors and the University community.
  *   Knowledge of integrated library systems as they relate to acquisitions, cataloging and serials management.
  *   Skill in the use of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook.
  *   Ability to plan and implement departmental and interdepartmental projects.
  *   Ability to build and lead team efforts.
