[Eril-l] Advice re onboarding new eresources/systems librarian

Hello, I agree with the list that Steve Oberg shared and am excited to learn about the new OA publication from expert colleagues.

I would add that a case study approach is useful.  Take the time to work through examples (in real time or from the past) to demonstrate the various decision points, contacts, relevant systems, documentation, and so forth.  A checklist may able be helpful, as is a "who does what" chart. Look for mentors, both internal and external to bounce ideas and questions off of.

Don't forget professional and vendor email discussion lists such as ERIL-L and others  (ILS, Library system-related).  These lists are great sources of valuable information!

Dear colleagues,

I'm working on an onboarding schedule for an incoming e-resources and systems librarian and would love to hear any ideas or advice from all of you about things you wish you would have learned when you started your current e-resources/systems role. So far, I have a draft schedule of meetings with colleagues within the library as well as key people outside the library, as well as a meeting with our former e-resources/systems administrator.  Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!
