Core webinar: Apples to Oranges: *A Blueprint for Comparing Open and
Proprietary Library Services Platforms*

Date: Wednesday, February 16, 2022

All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11 am Pacific, noon
Mountain, 1 pm Central, and 2 pm Eastern time.

This is the second session in a four-part series regarding Metadata &
Collections.

Description: The University of Wyoming Libraries is evaluating systems to
replace Sierra. As vendor consolidation continues to shrink available
choices, open source solutions are gaining traction. Comparing vendor
products with open source is a new experience for many of us. Resource
sharing both within the state of Wyoming and in the Colorado Alliance,
enhancing discovery, modern cloud infrastructure, and streamlining
e-resources workflows are major concerns. We’ll share the processes we
followed to assess requirements, evaluate available systems, and encourage
participation and feedback from across the Libraries and close partners.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this webinar, attendees will have learned about:

1. A process for assessing systems that could be used as a pattern or
blueprint by similar institutions;

2. Considerations for comparing vendor products with open-source solutions;
and

3. Examples for methods for communication with an emphasis on open feedback
and transparency.

Who should attend?

Anyone with an interest in the topic can benefit from this session and is
welcome to participate.
