Alicia Wise joins CLOCKSS as Executive Director

CLOCKSS - the long-term digital preservation service for scholarly
communications - is pleased to announce that Alicia Wise will be its new
Executive Director, taking over from Craig Van Dyck, who retires in May.

Dr. Wise has worked to improve access to digital research information
throughout her career, first with the Archaeology Data Service then in
senior roles in both the library and publishing communities, including Jisc,
the Publishers Association, Publishers Licensing Services and Elsevier. She
has been very active in collaborative initiatives between libraries and
publishers including the Accessible Books Consortium, CHORUS, Research4Life,
and CLOCKSS itself. Most recently, Alicia has been working as a consultant
in scholarly communications, advising libraries, funders, and publishers on
sustainable strategies for navigating the rapidly changing information
landscape.

Mimi Calter, Deputy University Librarian at Stanford, and co-chair of the
CLOCKSS Board of Directors said, 'We are delighted that Alicia will be
joining CLOCKSS as Executive Director. She has a wealth of industry
experience to bring to the role, and has of course worked with CLOCKSS
before, as both a board member, and as co-chair of the organization. We
thank Craig for the excellent job he has done over the past five years, and
look forward to working with Alicia to drive CLOCKSS through the next phases
of its development in the coming years.'

Alicia added, 'CLOCKSS is a profoundly important service, which Craig has
led admirably and with dedication, and it is an honour to be entrusted with
the next phase of its development. Research, and the information that flows
from it, are vital for our planet and species and must be preserved for the
long term. Just because this knowledge is available online today does not
guarantee it will be available tomorrow. The CLOCKSS community of librarians
and publishers is dedicated to working together to ensure this happens.'
