[Eril-l] Facilitating user access to online resources with expanded/free access during this crisis?

We are adding everything to our knowledgebase and databases a-z lists. Every temporary eresource gets a note and a clock icon and a virus icon.

We will also load MARC records for them into our catalog. We are going to ask Serials Solutions to push an extra MARC record load to us this week.

We are also tracking them on our ebooks LibGuide: https://libguides.bgsu.edu/ebooks

I figure it's the rest of the semester and we need as many extra eresources as we can get.

We are doing the same as Mary Ann. We do not have the capacity to integrate the free resources into our systems and have made the decision not to add them to LibGuides. We do not want to devote critical staff resources to do this then have to scramble to reverse the process when these go back behind paywalls, nor do we want to give faculty false expectations about access beyond this situation. Ever end a trial then have faculty upset that you did not subscribe; yeah, it could be like that at scale. However, we are creating a spreadsheet that we will make available to our community. We believe that will give faculty and students access in a way that demonstrates that access is temporary.

We are not updating our holdings, but we have created a LibGuide with a list of all the freebies available.

Subject: [Eril-l] Facilitating user access to online resources with expanded/free access during this crisis?

Hi all,

I was curious to know what other libraries are doing to facilitate access to expanded/free access to online resources provided by vendors (which we very much appreciate!) during this crisis. Our OER librarian is putting a list together in a LibGuide and we are working to make that more prominent on our website. But this falls outside the ER ecosystem that our users access to get their online materials.

Is anyone activating or updating holdings in their knowledge base, databse listing, discovery tool or library catalog? We want to take advantage of the opportunities the vendors are providing to connect our users to these resources but a lot of our capacity at the moment is being focused on managing impacts to the physical library and workplaces as our university and library transitions to online-only.

Any examples, suggestions, etc., would be much appreciated. Thanks!
