[Eril-l] Facilitating user access to online resources with expanded/free access during this crisis?

We use Alma/Primo.
If we can find a collection that matches what the publisher is giving us we are: activating it; giving it the appropriate service end date; adding a public note to let patrons know that it is a temporary offering; and an internal note so we can easily find them again.
For example, Emerald has given us 3 month trials to a few of their collections (that I'm sure they hope we'll purchase at the end). Since Emerald gave us access to their "Emerald Books Business Management And Economics Subscription" it was easy enough to find the exact match in the Alma knowledge base.
Admittedly, we know that the cleanup come May will be not as straight forward, but our librarians feel it's more useful to have those ~1600 books in the catalog instead of just telling patrons that they exist and sending them to the database. And we'll just deal with the cleanup when we have to.

Our plan is that if there are offerings from publishers that we can't match to an Alma collection is to just create a temporary bib and add a link to the database/publishers page, with appropriate public/internal notes. We haven't actually run across this situation yet, but we only started doing this this week.

Our science and medical school librarians have created lists/LibGuides of materials being made available specifically related to Covid-19 research. But I don't know of anyone making such a thing available for materials being made available because we've gone to online learning only. I believe they are just letting professors know about the material through departmental emails.

We're adding them to our Databases - A-Z page and tagging them as COVID-19. Just started doing this project about 30 minutes ago, so literally a work in progress.

Will include link to all of these in our COVID-19 info libguide. https://libguides.eku.edu/covid-19<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/libguides.eku.edu/covid-19__;!!JmPEgBY0HMszNaDT!4CsLXiNLEjsmUbRGwOMUoqfG0LI4yFlUjSPe7W0cIyhViONqNoxeCDit_pZkIA$>

Some of these are platforms and textbook resources and not traditional published eBooks. For the ones that are more traditional (Cambridge, etc.) we will temporarily add them to EDS Discovery.

I am curious as to what others are doing as well. Currently, we are updating an internal page with the opened content (some specific to our institution) for librarian outreach. If our initial remote work period continues, we will consider activating our content in our knowledgebase among other things. Looking forward to hearing from others.

Thank you,
Marianne

Subject: [EXTERNAL] [Eril-l] Facilitating user access to online resources with expanded/free access during this crisis?

Hi all,

I was curious to know what other libraries are doing to facilitate access to expanded/free access to online resources provided by vendors (which we very much appreciate!) during this crisis. Our OER librarian is putting a list together in a LibGuide and we are working to make that more prominent on our website. But this falls outside the ER ecosystem that our users access to get their online materials.

Is anyone activating or updating holdings in their knowledge base, databse listing, discovery tool or library catalog? We want to take advantage of the opportunities the vendors are providing to connect our users to these resources but a lot of our capacity at the moment is being focused on managing impacts to the physical library and workplaces as our university and library transitions to online-only.

Any examples, suggestions, etc., would be much appreciated. Thanks!
