[Eril-l] database accessibility

Hi all,

Thanks for the shout out about my presentation at ER&L. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have about the work we’ve been doing. Here’s a link to the recorded version of my presentation: https://erl2020.mediasiteservices.com/watch/f95f32c0-352e-4272-b29f-9eb7c9652343 (anyone can get free access to the ERL sessions now)
I’ve actually decided to have various student employees who now have no work to do continue the testing we started. Who knows, maybe we’ll actually be able to test them all!

The summary is that we try to accomplish the key tasks of the resource using only the keyboard. Then, if we find we cannot accomplish those tasks, we will work with the vendor to help fix the problems. (We haven’t done too much of the follow up part yet. We’ve been focused on getting a current snapshot so far.)

Best,
Hana

I actually went to a session about evaluating database accessibility at ER&L last week, which was presented by Hana Levay at University of Washington. One of the basic evaluations she suggested using was keyboard testing. https://www.washington.edu/accessibility/checklist/keyboard/

It seems like a good place to start and now I have a new idea for working from home!

We do not have one, but what a great idea. I hope people will share with the list. Thanks!

Hi all,

In order to help provide our staff some opportunities to work from home, I was hoping to pull together some kind of checklist or worksheet to have them evaluate database accessibility. It was a project I was planning to work on this summer.

Instead of recreating the wheel I thought I'd reach out and see if anyone already had anything that they are using and would be willing to share. If you do, please send it my way. Thank you!

Hope all of you are doing well!
