Hello ER&L hive-mind,

Next week I am presenting at ER&L 2020 about building sharable templates for COUNTER-based analyses. By "COUNTER-based analyses" I mean taking a COUNTER report and meshing it with other data (including other COUNTER reports) to garner some understanding about eResource collections and usage. Examples include:

  *   meshing COUNTER R5 Title Master with KBART holdings file to identify zero use titles;
  *   comparing usage on the same titles, databases, or platforms from year to year;
  *   calculating total full text usage of journals across all platforms;
  * meshing title lists that include subject indicators with COUNTER to see usage per subject.
I am sure there are many, many other uses that we make of COUNTER. I'd like to hear what you do with your COUNTER reports, what other data sources you pull into your analyses, and what you'd like to do, but currently don't.

I'm brainstorming approaches to share template files so we don't all have to reinvent the wheel. As a beta/proof of concept, I created a Google Form that could be used to share links to templates and enter info about what the template does, which files types it needs as inputs, etc. I'm not convinced that the form is the best approach. Have a look and let me know what you think would be better!

Finally, here is a folder on Google Drive with two example a KBART COUNTER JR1, JR1a, JR1GOA templates, with instructions included. One example is for Wiley Database Model 2018 KBART using DOI to match in COUNTER JR reports. The other is for T&F 2019 KBARTs for SSH, S&T, and Med using proprietary ID as the matching element.
