[Eril-l] [EXT] Re: Binding print serials

University of North Texas pretty much stopped binding a few years back also. We decided that most journals were think enough to stand on their own (squished on shelves). For what we call the "floppies" (think Variety, newsletters), we use a magazine box. (like this: https://www.target.com/p/magazine-file-black-project-62-8482/-/A-52808345)

When we move journals to remote storage, the thicker ones just go squished onto shelves there, and the floppies can stay in the magazine box (barcoded by volume in one box). We just consider the box as the "binding."

We have contemplated shrink wrap, plastic, etc. But we decided the box works just fine.

Hello,

Dickinson stopped binding serials back in 2009 to save money. We simply put the unbound issues on the shelf (no containers). Not binding also saves staff time. It hasn’t been a problem, although I should mention that we are increasingly using online journals, so use of our print serials has declined accordingly.

Dear All,

I am interested to know if anyone is opting for keeping print serials issues in plastic bags instead of binding them (to reduce binding cost).
