I think with the 1 user ebooks, if one user is currently reading it online in the TOC, other users can't also read it online through the Table of Contents, but once that session is over, ie the user closes the tab, 1 other reader can read it online.  - But you don't have 1 reader downloading it for 7 days (or 3 days, or 1 day) and no one else can read it until that checkout time is over.

I think you're just eliminating the download preventing the access, the 1 user preventing a 2nd user from reading at the same time is still in effect, if it's 1 user ebook.

Great contributions, I appreciate them.

For those of you who have disabled the download entire eBook feature, does this change the way you purchase EBSCO eBooks?

I imagine there would be no reason to purchase anything above 1 user access titles, if everyone could access the book via the table of contents.

Hi all,

We recently reviewed some of our ebook settings. Our testing revealed that even though we set 1SU ebook checkout to NO, we were still able to check it out.
EBSCO confirmed this is an open issue. I would contact them to get added to the list requesting this be fixed soon!
In addition, EBSCO's help documentation is not consistent for this topic. Just terrible!

Hi ER folks,

A little background, I and most others (students/faculty) find the EBSCO eBook interface poor, confusing, and frustrating.

Instead of encouraging students to check out/download the entire eBook in EBSCO, I often tell users to just go through the table of contents and find what they need and download/print/save from there.

Recently a single use eBook was assigned to a class as a textbook. One of the students checked out the entire book so it was inaccessible to others. I realized this would not have happened if the book wasn't available to check out.

Can you set up EBSCO eBooks so that you can download sections via the table of contents only? I see a section in the admin back end that gives the option "Allow Download Outside eBook Viewer" YES or NO

Has anyone experimented with this? If I select NO, will users still be able to access sections of the book via the table of contents?
