Librarian: Collection Development

The University Libraries at Texas State University are seeking qualified applicants for a Collection Development Librarian. Reporting to the Head of Acquisitions, this position provides leadership in implementing best practices in library collection development,  promotes data-informed, strategic collection development, works extensively with librarians and faculty to assess needs, assess collections, and develop strategies to continually improve collection support for the teaching, learning, and research needs of students, faculty, and staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate collection activities, including but not limited to recommending collection policies, advising librarians in collection development activities, promoting data-informed collection decisions, managing gift review, and coordinating weeding and replacement projects. Assess collection support for program accreditations, program reviews, and new program proposals. Plan and coordinate other assessments as needed. Monitor curriculum and research activities of the university to inform collection development and share relevant information with other library staff. Recommend collection strategies and update electronic slip profiles. Provide information about collections and collection activities to library staff and faculty. Develop understanding of patron needs and behavior and select library materials to meet patron needs. Engage in professional activities in accordance with Texas State University's standards for promotion for professional librarians.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program

Knowledge of:

  *   theory and practice of library and information science
  *   the information industry, particularly the  scholarly marketplace
  *   collection analysis methodologies
  *   trends in academic libraries, scholarly communication, and collection development

Familiarity with:

  *   an integrated library system, such as Sierra
  *   library classification, preferably Library of Congress system



Ability to:

  *   use computer software, such as Microsoft Office, to prepare reports, analyze data, develop presentations
  *   conduct training in a one-to-one or small group setting
  *   communicate tactfully and succinctly with a wide variety of audiences
  *   manage projects



Preferred:

  *   Knowledge of collection development and analysis tools such as OCLC's WorldCat Collection Evaluation, Choice, and others

  *   Ability to analyze and improve workflow
  *   Experience with collection development and/or working with faculty
  *   Experience with data visualization or data-informed decision-making




SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Advancement in rank is available through the Librarian/ Curator Career Ladder. Benefits include monthly contribution to health insurance/benefits package and retirement program. No state or local income tax.
