We were in the same boat and opted to receive the print microfilm for as long as we had the digital microfilm – so back to 2012. We received the film on WEEKLY reels. We are now in a world where we are having to pay for additional storage options for microfilm in 2019. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Subject: [Eril-l] Proquest digital microfilm

My library had been getting our local newspaper on digital microfilm via Proquest, and the paper is one that was not transferred to the new Recent Newspapers platform. So now we have files that need to be downloaded within the next 3.5 months before the content we paid for disappears forever.

The files, however, will take up an enormous amount of space—like, more than a terabyte. I’ve talked with library IT and they’re considering compressing the files to store them but also have concerns that this isn’t the best long-term storage solution.

So I guess my question to you, dear ERI-L subscribers, is if your library is in the same position, how are you handling this?
